v BEDFONT GREEN SUNDAY- AWAY
Ashford Recreation Ground, Ashford
V's travelled to Bedfont Green with a depleted squad, not ideal if they were to improve on last seasons effort, a 2-0 defeat. With Butcher missing through injury Jonesy
remained in goal as he had done for all but one of the pre season friendlies as V's number 1 was sunning himself somewhere. The usual early season unavailability meant that Sprags had to cut short his retirement to record his 250th appearance in competitive matches (a milestone he was saving for the reserves game)! As expected Bedfont started strongly but while V's were matching them in the defensive department they struggled to get forward in the early stages. Andy G was having a stormer at centre half nullfying the threat of the Greens big forward. After 25 mins Green broke the deadlock from a swift counter attack. V's then had a good ten minute spell which saw them create three good chances, the best falling to Big Rob who shot straight at the keeper but really should have scored. Jones then pulled off a stunning stop from close range to keep the score at
1-0 going into the break. The second half began with a cock-up which was to signal a V's collapse, a mix up at the back let in the Greens big forward who chipped Jones to make it 2-0. Third and fourth goals followed in quick succession and V's heads dropped. Big Rob perhaps should have at least got one of the two shouts for a pen but nothing was given. Jones in the V's goal made a couple of good stops one-on-one but BGS went on to get the fifth and a slightly fortunate sixth as Micky P's back header
bounced over Jones to complete the scoring.
FINAL SCORE
BGS 6-0 V's (HT 1-0)

v CHISWICK ALBION- AWAY
Birkbeck Sports Ground, Greenford
The facilities at the Birkbeck were the highlight of the day as V's put in a dour performance against a lively Albion.
Albion, always strong starters to a season were too much for a Venceremos side who were off the pace from the start and unable to adapt.
With the game all over at half time V's did manage to create the odd chance in a late second half flurry.
FINAL SCORE
CHISWICK 5-0 V's (HT 3-0)

FA SUNDAY CUP R1
v FC FELLOWSHIP- AWAY
DRG Stapleton FC, Frenchay, Bristol
V's venture into the 'Big Time' Sunday Football Competition took them down the M4 to Bristol which on the face of it wasn't too much further, in time at least, to the trip to Barnes Albion, sarf of the river. V's with no knowledge of their West Country opposition started the game on the back foot, lacking confidence and before too long found themselves 2-0 down. Fancy Dan almost pulled a goal back from a free kick late on in the first half but at leat this signalled a V's revival. After 70mins gone in the second half V's pulled a goal back as Damo on for the injured Rifat worked some magic down the right, fed Fancy Dan who turned sharply in the box amd fired a shot which the keeper could only parry into the path of Ian H who tucked it away. Soon after Ian H should have levelled but couldn't find the net with a volley. As V's rallied the inevitable gap was exploited by Fellowship who added a third in injury time chipping the advancing Butcher in the V's goal.
That concluded V's experience in Sunday Footballs Premier competition but did have the consolation of earning V's a nice little sum of money from the 'away teams' travelling expenses!

v HANWORTH VILLA SUNDAY - HOME
Brunel University, Uxbridge
V's preparation for this game was hampered by the news that Butcher had quit to concentrate on his Saturday football aspirations with Oxhey jets. V's management were quick to react and signed an immediate replacement in Richard Thomas. V's should have been ahead in the first half but squandered many chances. Thomas in the V's goal stood strong and thwarted the oppositions forward line on more than one occasion. Big Rob grabbed what turned out to be a winner for the V's to eliminate one of the favourites for the competition.

v RECTORY TEDDINGTON RANGERS - AWAY
Bushy Park, Hampton Hill
A skeleton V's side were up for what was sure to be a close and possibly heated encounter on a small, wet, un kept pitch, more suited to an U13's match. Both teams started well, with some hard challenges in midfield, and some good passing on the tricky surface. An early booking for Rectory from a stern ref calmed the fixture down, and both teams had plenty of chances early on. Rectory broke the deadlock mid way though the first half thanks to some poor V's defending. V's were back in the match a few minutes later with a great strike from Tom 12 yards out, from a corner that wasn't cleared. It was end to end action with chances falling to both teams, but as Rectory were back on the attack, a second goal was snatched. V's again equalised, and with only 10 minutes till half time, looked as if they were going to hold on. It was not to be. 2 more goals from Rectory before half time, gifted by basic errors left V's with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Rectory made a brighter start to the second half, and a quick goal seemed to have sealed their win. At 5-2 up, they just needed to hold on. Suddenly the tide changed, and the V's were a new side to that of the first half. With every V'a attack a goal seemed possible, and this was soon to be the case courtesy of a 25 yard strike from Big Rob. Rectory were falling apart and their arguing amongst the ranks was made worse when their best player was subbed with about 25 mins to go. The V's capitalised on some very poor defensive play, where Dan found himself unmarked at the back post, with time to take the ball down and slot it home past the keeper. With renewed belief, V's pressed forward, and sloppy marking from a free kick gave Matt B an easy tap in to equalise. It was again end to end stuff, with Richard Thomas pulling off a couple of great saves, and the pace of the Rectory forward line taking its toll on a tired defence. With minutes to go the V's forced a corner through some great closing down, and Macca was available, unmarked at the near post to tap in the 6th, his second and the all important match winner.
By no means a comprehensive win, but great to the first 3 points and score 6. When V's got the ball down and actually played they looked the stronger side, and pure belief and determination to win saw V's through this very scrappy game.

Hayes End's early dominance saw them take a two goal lead but Big Rob got a goal back on the half time whistle with a low shot after good work from Tommy T. V's up for another comeback were dealt a cruel blow soon after the break as Hayes End restored their two goal advantage with an exquisite (lucky) 20 yard lob. Undettered by this V's enjoyed their best spell of the game but were caught on the break and the resulting close range shot somehow crossed the line after Thomas, V's new keeper, had intially made a good save. V's did pull a goal back as Big Rob nodded in a wicked Matt Bray corner but there was to be no repeat of the Rectory comeback and Hayes End added a fifth late on.

v PERCIVAL - HOME (Played Away)
Bush Hill Park, Enfield
V's fancied their chances against the Mercury Waltham League side who were not a having a particularly good start to the season themselves. V's started brightly but had only a handful of corners to show for the albiet brief early dominance. As Percival settled though they began to get a foothold on the game. V's inability to play through the midfield played into Percivals hands as the V's makeshift forward line of Gibbo and Preecey were given too much to do with little support. Percival eventually made their superiority tell but thanks in the main to some charitable V's play. V's keeper Thomas gifted a throw to a Percival midfielder who made a few yards, shot through a crowd of players and scored under the keepers dive. Percival added a second just before half time as the back four were caught out trying to play off-side. &*@!"*)(. In an effort to get back in the game and to make best use of the players available V's narrowed the formation but this proved fruitless and Percival grabbed two quick second half goals to seal the tie. With the game well and truly lost V's had their first effort on goal but unfortunatley Gibbo's shot was easily dealt with by the keeper. Percival added a fifth before Sprags should have added a consolation but headed wide from a late corner.

With Thomas gone and no recognised keeper Jonesy stepped into the frame not for the first time this season. But with no game for three weeks V's were just not at the races. Twickers who are renown for being quick out of the blocks had the game won by half time. A consolatiojn from Big Rob was all V's had to show from a thoroughly miserable performance.

v BEDFONT GREEN SUNDAY- HOME
Brunel University, Uxbridge
V's took the game to Bedfont Green in an inspired first half performance and lead 2-0 at half time thanks to a brace from Big Rob, the first a fre header from a corner, the second a net buster from 12 yards. With Bedfont upping their game in the second half V's were under pressure for long periods and conceded early after the restart. However V's fought back to restore their two goal advantage as Big rounded the keeper for his hat-trick. With time ticking away V's could sense a famous victory however with 8 mins remaining a tame near post corner was not cleared and Bedfont reduced the arrears, soon after V's were hit a hammer blow as a long range strike was deflected past Gareth in the V's goal to level the score and take the tie into extra-time leaving V's deflated. It wasn't until the second period of extra time that The Green went in front for the first time in the game, the referee failing to give a blatant offside decision. The Green then added a fifth to put the game out of reach for a shattered V's side who really should have won this one in normal time. Another positive performance by a rejuvenated V's side who played some sublime football and must soon get the break they deserve.

v SHEEN LIONS- AWAY
Civil Service Sports Club, Chiswick
Sheen Lions new to the Premier Division soon marked their authority on the game with a formation that V's could not deal with. Flooding the midfield and with very mobile strikers Sheen should have had the game sewn up in the first half. However some poor finishing, heroic defending and fine goal keeping kept V's in this game.
Sheen went further aheahd in the second half however Ian H had a golden opportunity to get V's bach in the game but pulled up lame with only the keeper to beat. With the V's sub already used the 10 men were unable to contain Sheen who added two further goals.

v HAMPTON VILLAGE - HOME
Brunel University, Uxbridge
This was to be the start of a bleak period for the V's as for the first time for two seasons V's could only muster 10 players for what should have been a formality against Intermediate division opposition. However V's began well and had the best of the posession in the first half. Unfortunatley Jones in the V's goal let in a very tame effort to give Village an undeserved lead but Fancy Dan equalised through a crowd of players. V's could not keep the momentum going in the second half and without a linesman paid the price for some lazy defending as the referee failed to give at least two decisions which Hampton accepted with glee. With no way back for the V's this Cup defeat extiguished any chance of honours for the season.

V's began this game in the ascendency but failed to convert a host of chances. Stanwell took the lead against the run of play with a speculative 30 yarder which caught the wind to leave Jones stranded. Stanwell added a second as half time approached as Jones could only parry a free kick into the roof of the net. V's capitulated in the second half as Stanwell literally took the piss and forged a five goal lead. V's did however manage to register two late goals, one from Tommy T and a Dan Clarke penalty.
