HEADSTONE MANOR 'B' 6-1 VENCEREMOS

Our fourth league game saw us away to Headstone Manor. An established side with good players. We came into the game with 4 players missing through injury's and obligations, but were not deterred as our whole squad is there for these reasons. From the first whistle the game was 50/50 with the Vs putting some great link play from defence into midfield. At half time it was 2-1 with a great placed shot from Kano. We made a couple of subs due to sickness and injury and came out heads high ready for the result we deserved.  We played some great passes and the defence worked well and we gave them a game. But as the half unfolded they caught us with wide balls out to the wings. And 4 very similar goals followed for them. Some good positives to take from this game as we worked hard but our midfield engine is still on choke. We have two great goalies working off each other, a defence that worked hard with two players missing, and a midfield and attack that when the right formula is mixed is going to be explosive. Arjun won man of the match for his hard work in defence. Well done all the Vs but communication is the missing formula. Performance Rating 6.0

VENCEREMOS 1-6 LONDON ATHLETIC 'A'

A game which the boys dominated for the first 20 minutes was ultimately lost either side of half time.  We started brightly winning most second balls and creating a number of good openings but London Athletic defended bravely then totally against the run of play took the lead after we didn't properly clear a corner. This gave our opponents a boost and just before half time they doubled their lead with a fantastic strike.  After the break we defended disappointingly as a team and paid the price.  In the last 10 minutes we again imposed ourselves coming agonisingly close on a number of occasions before Luke finished neatly.  The scoreline was clearly not reflective of the game and the performance had some quality but the team needs to realise that we need to compete collectively for the full 60 minutes because our opponents will. A special mention for Josh who showed fantastic determination throughout and Leo who played on despite a nasty clash of heads. Performance Rating 7.5

VENCEREMOS 2-0 BESSINGBY PARK RANGERS 'B'

The boys were involved in another close fought match against BPR. The defences were on top in the first half as neither side created too many clear cut chances. The V's positional play was a great improvement on the last two weeks which allowed them to both cover well defensivley and support each other better going forward. If any team was going to break the deadlock the V's looked favourite as the game opened up in the second half. Having squandered a couple of chances it was a cracker of a goal that put the V's in front. Mahmoud got hold of the ball outside the penalty area and hit a stunning shot into the top corner on 45 minutes. Rikin added a second with a great strike to cap a much improved team performance. Well done the Junior V's. Performance Rating 8.0

GREENFORD CELTIC 'B' 2-1 VENCEREMOS

The V's began well matching the Celtics, with good defending by George and Mike. At the other end Owen's runs from midfield continued to trouble their defence. After 5 minutes loose marking at a corner saw a low drive from the edge of the box go through a crowd of players and the V's were behind. George almost levelled it with a shot turned onto the post. Will up front had to come deep to pick up the ball before making his way towards goal with good purpose. However Reece kept us in the game with a string of fine saves. Mohamed, Cameron and Charlie played mostly across the midfield supporting breaks and tackling hard to win most of the ball. The second half saw shots from Mike, Owen, Will and Rahul who had beaten the keeper only to have it cleared off the line. The passing and movement was better and the V's piled on the pressure with Owen hitting the post. George continued to keep the score down with good hands and clearances, but the Celtics broke down the left and a square pass was neatly volleyed in. After the restart the Celtics got another corner, but it was defended well and Rahul broke up the right flank. He played the ball up to Owen who took it from the half way line with a fine solo run and slotted it in the back of the net.
